Rochester Red Wings News Release

SUNDAY, JUNE 17, 2012 w LOUISVILLE SLUGGER FIELD

GAME #69 - ROAD GAME #39 - 6:05 P.M.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS (31-37) at LOUISVILLE BATS (22-48)

RHP SAMUEL DEDUNO (0-1, 3.15) vs. RHP PEDRO VILLARREAL (2-3, 3.14)

LONG AND WINDING ROAD: The Rochester Red Wings tonight conclude their 4-game series at Louisville (Reds) and 8-game, 9-day roadtrip that started with a 4-game set at Indianapolis (Pirates). The Red Wings lost 3 of 4 at Indy to start the trip and have taken 2 of 3 to begin this series in Kentucky. The Wings return home tomorrow for an 8-game stay with a pair of 4-game series vs. Durham (Rays) and Charlotte (White Sox).

a Buffalo Bills Nick Barnett and Brian Moorman will sign autographs prior to Monday's game at Frontier Field from 6:00-6:50 p.m. Earlier in the afternoon, Barnett, Moorman, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Ryan Lindell will take batting practice at Frontier Field.

LOTS AT STAKE: A win tonight would give the Red Wings a 4-4 roadtrip for their first non-losing roadtrip since July 22-29, 2011, when they went 4-4 at Indianapolis (1-3) and Louisville (3-1). Rochester hasn't had a winning roadtrip since April 17-21, 2011, when they went 3-2 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barres (1-0) and Buffalo (2-2). That roadtrip was shortened to 5 games from 6 after the series opener at Scranton was rained out.

a A win tonight would give the Red Wings 5 wins on the roadtrip, which would be their most on a trip since going 5-3 June 8-15, 2010 at Columbus (3-1) and Toledo (2-2).

a A win tonight would also give the Red Wings their best record in a season series against a team outside of the IL North Division since 2006, when they went 6-2 against Columbus, Durham, Norfolk, and Richmond. The Wings are 5-2 thus far against Louisville.

a A win tonight would give Rochester its 3rd series win in the last 4 tries. In its previous 3 series the club won 3 of 4 vs. Columbus, took 3 of 4 vs. Norfolk, and lost 3 of 4 at Indianapolis.

BETTER BASEBALL: The Red Wings are 17-14 in their last 31 games beginning May 15 and are 22-21 beginning May 3. Rochester is tied for the 5th-best record in the International League beginning May 15:

Rank Team Record Winning %

1. Charlotte 21-9 .700

2. Empire State 21-12 .636

3. Pawtucket 19-11 .633

4. Lehigh Valley 16-13 .551

T5. Rochester 17-14 .548

Indianapolis 17-14 .548

NOT PERFECT TEN: The Red Wings have given up 10 or more runs on 7 occasions and are 1-6 in those games. The lone win was an 11-10 triumph in 10 innings at Charlotte May 30, when the Wings came back from a 4-run deficit in the 9th.

a Only Gwinnett (Braves) in the International League has allowed at least 10 runs in a game more times with 8, although Durham also has given up 10 or more runs 7 times.

a Buffalo (Mets) and Toledo (Tigers) have both allowed 10 or more runs in a game only once. Buffalo lost 21-3 at Columbus June 5 and Toledo dropped a 12-6 decision vs. Columbus April 21.

a Despite the blunders, the Red Wings still have a 3.78 ERA to rank 8th in the IL. Rochester ranked last in the league with a 4.76 ERA in 2011 and last in the circuit with a 4.93 ERA in 2010. The Wings ranked 2nd to last in the IL with a 4.27 ERA in 2009.

HOMER HAPPY: The Red Wings have homered in a season-high 3 straight games for the 5th time. Clete Thomas homered Thursday and yesterday at Louisville while Wilkin Ramirez homered Friday at Louisville Slugger Field. The Wings last homered in at least 4 straight games August 7-11, 2011, when they went 5 games in a row with a long ball.

a The Red Wings have already homered 9 times in 15 games in June after hitting 15 homers in 30 games in May.

a The Red Wings have hit a league-low 34 home runs, 2 behind the next closest team Indianapolis, which has 36. Toledo's Brad Eldred has 24 home runs himself to lead the IL.

a Red Wings' pitchers last night allowed a season-high 3 home runs for the 3rd time, all off Matt Maloney. Rochester has yielded only 45 homers overall, the 4th-lowest mark in the league.

FATHER TIME: The Red Wings have a 4-game losing streak on Father's Day, including a doubleheader sweep in 2009 vs. Toledo. The Wings last won on Father's Day in 2008, when they defeated Louisville 5-2 at Frontier Field. In fact, that is their only Father's Day victory in the last 6 years, going 1-6 in that time.

a The Red Wings tonight are playing on the road on Father's Day for the first time since at least 2004. Online stats only go back to 2005 and this scribe cannot make it into the office today to check the binders for Rochester's last road contest on Father's Day.

a On a related side note, tonight's starter Samuel Deduno, is a former San Diego Padre, appearing in 2 games with the club in April 2011. Sean Burroughs, not to go unnoticed, is also a former Padre. He played in a San Diego uniform for 4 seasons from 2002-05. Ray Chang was signed by the Padres as a non-drafted free agent in 2005, but he never appeared in a big league game with them.

a Gene Glynn, meanwhile, was a manager in the Padres' minor league system. He won a short-season Single-A Northwest League championship with the Spokane Indians in 1990.

CALLING ALL STARS: Voting for the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game is underway. The game, featuring the IL and the Pacific Coast League, will be played July 11 at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Field. Fans can vote by visiting RedWingsBaseball.com and clicking on the "Fan Zone" tab through June 22.
