June 17, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) - Jeff Clement homered in the top of the ninth inning on Sunday and the Indianapolis Indians slipped past the Charlotte Knights 2-1 in the finale of their four-game series from Knights Stadium.

With the game tied 1-1, Clement homered off of Charlotte reliever Jhan Carlos Marinez (1-2, 4.50). The home run proved to be the difference as the Indians closed things out in the ninth for their second win of the season against the Knights. Reliever Tim Wood shut the door for his seventh save of the year.

A day after winning the game on the final pitch, the Knights fell just short of Indianapolis on Sunday. Indianapolis reliever Daniel McCutchen (3-2, 3.38), who was added to the roster on Sunday for a Major League rehab assignment, threw a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win.

Even with the loss, the Knights still earned a four-game series split with Indianapolis and still hold a four game lead over Gwinnett for first place in the South Division. The G-Braves lost to Columbus on Sunday by a score of 6-2.

Starter Charlie Leesman was sharp for the Knights but did not factor in the decision. The Ohio native allowed one unearned run over seven innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.20 on the season - the second lowest mark in the International League. In all, Leesman allowed just five hits, two walks and struck-out a season-high nine batters.

Indians starter Justin Wilson threw six innings and allowed just one run on one hit. Charlotte's only hit of the afternoon came off the bat of Greg Golson.

Charlotte (41-30) will now move on to host the Columbus Clippers for a four-game series beginning on Monday from Knights Stadium. RHP Brian Bruney will make the start for Charlotte while Columbus will send LHP T.J. McFarland to the hill. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
