GWINNETT, LOSE, OR DRAW: The Rochester Red Wings tonight begin a 4-game series vs. Gwinnett (Braves), continuing an 8-game homestand that began with a 4-game set against Louisville (Reds). Following 4 with the Braves, Rochester will take Wednesday off and then go on the road for 8 games, including a pair of 4-game series at Gwinnett and Charlotte (White Sox).

a The Red Wings' game vs. Gwinnett on Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. (5:05 a.m. in Hawaii) will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports and simulcast nationally on MLB Network.

a The Red Wings tonight begin a stretch of playing 8 straight games against Gwinnett. The club hasn't had that long of a stretch against one team since playing Louisville 8 games in a row June 9-17, 2007. The Wings went 3-5 in those games to quickly wrap up the season series.

a Rochester on Tuesday became the final team in the IL to play outside its division when it hosted Louisville . The Wings' first 37 game s were against IL North teams. The Red Wings are in the midst of playing 40 consecutive games against interdivision foes through June 25 before returning to North Division competition at Lehigh Valley (Phillies) June 26-29.

BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 26 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees share the downtown ballpark with the Red Wings. Today in Rochester for the Gwinnett-Red Wings game:

SERIES RECAP: The Red Wings took 3 of 4 from Louisville for their first win of a series longer than 2 games. Rochester's previous 3 series victories had all been 2-game sweeps. The Wings are 4-6-3 in series overall.

a The Red Wings' pitching staff posted a 2.61 ERA (11 ER/38.0 IP) in the series, including a 1.69 ERA (3 ER/16.0 IP) by the bullpen. Red Wings' relievers, in fact, have a 2.81 ERA (18 ER/57.2 IP) in 17 games in May.

LET THE RECORD SPEAK: At 17-24, the Red Wings are off to their best start since the 2009 club went 21-20 in their first 41 games. The 2012 Wings are 14-12 at Frontier Field, including a 10-8 mark as the home team. Rochester is unbeaten in 6 of its 8 series along Morrie Silver Way, going 3-2-3 in those series overall.

a The Red Wings are 8-10 in May and are within reach of their first winning calendar month since August 2009, when they went 17-15. Rochester would need to go 8-4 the rest of the way this month to accomplish the feat.

LOW FIVE: The Red Wings have scored 5 runs or less in 39 of their 41 games, the lone exceptions being Opening Day at Syracuse (a 7-3 win) and May 10 at Pawtucket (a 7-6 loss). The Wings have scored 5 or more runs on 9 occasions and are 7-2 in those games, including last night's 5-3 triumph vs. Louisville.

a Rochester ranks last in the International League with 123 runs scored, 19 fewer than the next closest team Lehigh Valley (142).

WHO NEEDS HOME RUNS ANYWAY?: The Red Wings are tied for last in the IL with Indianapolis (Pirates) with 14 home runs. The Wings, who have yet to hit 2 homers in a game, are 4-10 when they hit a home run, including 9 losses in their last 10 games with a long ball. Rochester is 13-14 in its other 27 games.

a 10 different Red Wings have homered, 6 of which are not on the active roster. Those Wings on the active roster with at least one home run are Rene Rivera (2), Matt Carson (1), Pedro Florimon (2), and Danny Valencia (1).

GOT THAT OUT OF OUR SYSTEM: The Red Wings allowed a season-high 11 runs May 12 at Syracuse, their 3rd straight game surrendering 7 or more runs. In 6 games since, the club has surrendered just 22 runs, an average of 3.7 per game. Rochester starters are 2-1 with a 3.41 ERA (13 ER/34.1 IP) in that same span while relievers are 1-2 with a 2.29 ERA (5 ER/19.2 IP).

a 7 of the Red Wings' 17 wins have come from starters Scott Diamond and P.J. Walters, both of whom are now with the Twins. Diamond last night earned his 3rd win in as many starts for the Twins since being recalled from Rochester.

a The Red Wings have recorded a save in 16 of their 17 victories. Four different relievers have at least one save, including Anthony Slama (7), Casey Fien (6), Tyler Robertson (2), and Lester Oliveros (1).

DIVERSITY: The Wings' 25-man roster is represented by 6 countries, including Australia (Liam Hendriks, Brendan Wise), Canada (Rene Tosoni), Dominican Republic (Pedro Florimon, Wilkin Ramirez, Esmerling Vasquez), Japan (Tsuyoshi Nishioka), Venezuela (Deolis Guerra, Lester Oliveros), and the United States. Rene Rivera, not to go unnoticed, is a native of Puerto Rico, a U.S territory.

THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: In 1990, Tom Brunansky goes 5-for-5, including 2 home runs, as part of a 20-hit attack for the Red Sox in their 13-1 win over the Twins at Fenway Park.
