Rochester Red Wings News Release

LHP Austin Cox (4-4, 4.28) vs. RHP Franklyn Kilome (NR)
OMAHA!: The Rochester Red Wings and RHP Patrick Murphy locked down a 4-1 win over Omaha last night...RHP Sterling Sharp went 5.2 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run and one walk while setting a career-high in strikeouts with nine...four Wings' relievers combined to work the remaining 3.1 innings and did so without allowing a hit...1B Joey Meneses hit his team-leading 17th homer last night, finishing with the Wings' lone multi-hit and multi-RBI effort, going 2-for-4 with two RBI....LF Andrew Stevenson and SS Ildemaro Vargas picked up their 39th and 20th RBI, respectively, in back-to-back at-bats prior to the Meneses long ball...RHP Franklyn Kilome will make his Red Wings debut after being transferred from Double-A Harrisburg yesterday.
SAVING PRIVATE MURPHY: RHP Patrick Murphy picked up his first Triple-A save after striking out two Storm Chasers in the 9th, securing the 4-1 victory...Murphy's last save came with High-A Lansing on June 2, 2016, marking 134 relief appearances in between Minor League saves.
The Wings are now 21-for-30 in save opportunities with the lockdown win last night.
THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: Following Sharp's 5.2 innings pitched, the Wings' pen didn't allow a hit and punched out a combined four Storm Chasers...the Wings pen currently ranks sixth for reliever ERA (3.96) while also logging the least amount of home runs given up by a bullpen in the International League...the Rochester bullpen's 446 punchouts is good for fifth-most in the IL in 2022.
21 SAVAGE: DH Josh Palacios extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a single in the 2nd inning of last night's contest...the lefty has the longest on-base streak on the Red Wings squad this season and the second-longest active streak in the International League...Palacios is now just one game away from tying Zander Wiel for the longest on-base streak for Rochester, since 2019, when Wiel reached base safely in 22 games (8/11/19 - 9/2/19).
LOOKIN' SHARP: RHP Sterling Sharp went 5.2 innings last night, allowing just one earned run on seven hits while walking one and striking out nine Storm Chasers...his nine punchouts mark a new career-high, having matched his previous career-high of eight strikeouts three times...Sharp threw 100 pitches for the first time this season, 68 of which were for strikes...his 100 pitches thrown were eight less than his career-high of 108 that he threw on 7/2/2017 with Single-A Hagerstown.
DOUBLE-LESS: For just the second time all season, the Wings failed to record a double in consecutive games...if the Wings fail to record a two-bagger in tonight's contest, the Wings would match that 6/3 - 6/4 draught which saw the Wings go double-less on the 3rd and then in both ends of the June 4th doubleheader...the Wings have failed to record an extra-base hit in just five of their 87 games.
I MISS THE OLD YOU: For just the fourth time in their last 16 outings, Wings pitchers have struck out 10+ batters in a game following last night's 13 strikeout effort...over that span, the Wings' have struck out 138 opposing bats and issued just 58 free passes.
After leading the International League in strikeouts at the end of the first week of the season, the Wings haven't ranked higher than 5th...they currently sit in 7th with 798 punchouts.
17 FOR #17: 1B Joey Meneses went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Rochester's win, logging the only multi-hit and multi-RBI performance of the evening...the righty's fifth-inning blast off LHP Drew Parrish was his team-leading 17th long ball of the season and his seventh off a southpaw...the Red Wings now have a record of 10-4 when Meneses goes deep.
HALLE-ALU-JAH: In just his second Triple-A game, 3B Jake Alu went 1-for-3 with a run scored...between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester, the 25-year-old infielder has reached base safely in 23-straight games...the lefty has also extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 18-for-40 during that stretch (.450) dating back to 6/12 with Harrisburg.
YOU'RE KILOME, SMALLS: RHP Franklyn Kilome was transferred from Double-A Harrisburg on 7/14 and will get his first career start tonight in a Wings uniform...in nine appearances (48 IP) this season with the Senators, the 27-year-old has punched out 51 batters, good for a K/9 of 9.6...across his last three appearances (21 IP), the Dominican Republic-native has struck out 24 batters (10.3 K/9)...this season, Kilome is averaging 5.1 IP and 5.66 strikeouts per appearance.
Kilome has logged 13 strikeouts across four appearances (11.1 innings pitched) in the MLB (New York Mets, 2020), good for a 10.3 K/9.
