Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Edinburg, TX - Edinburg Coyotes (33-40, 7-16) sport-starter Angel Rocha (1-3) allowed just one hit while striking out nine in five shuout innings to defeat the first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (38-35, 9-14) 3-0 in game one of tonight's doubleheader (two seven inning games) at Edinburg Stadium.
Nelson Teilon put the Coyotes on top early with a long two-run home run over the center field fence after fouling off three two-strike pitches against Maximino de la Cruz (6-5) to make it 2-0.
Amado German added to that lead in the fifth with a solo-shot, his fourth of the season, making it 3-0.
That was more than enough to back Rocha, who dominated from start to finish, striking out the first four men he faced.
De la Cruz was solid in the loss, pitching a complete game (six innings), giving up four hits and one walk while striking out three.
Game two will start in approximately thirty minutes. Joe Rogers (9-2) will face Bryan Heaston (2-4).
