Robinson's walk-off sends Birds to fifth straight win

Drew Robinson hit a walk-off, RBI single in the ninth inning Saturday and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (22-13) won their fifth straight game, beating the Salem Red Sox 9-8 in front of 4,103 fans at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans keep a firm lead on the southern division riding their longest winning streak of the season.
With runners on first and second and one out in the ninth, Robinson hit a high fly ball into the left field corner. The ball deflected off of Salem's left fielder Brandon Jacobs, who ranged over to attempt a catch. When the ball landed, Jake Skole scored the winning run from second.
The 17 combined runs are the most in a Pelicans game this season. After trailing 4-0 in the first inning, the Pelicans came back to build an 8-5 lead after four innings.
Luis Sardinas and Drew Robinson each tallied two hits for the Pelicans who are now 14-4 on their home field this season. Rougned Odor, Kellin Deglan, Royce Bolinger and Robinson each knocked in two runs.
Ryan Harvey (3-0) earned the win for the Pelicans, allowing one unearned run on one hit over two innings. Nate Striz (0-3) went 1.1 innings and took the loss, allowing Robinson's game-winner.
Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff started for Myrtle Beach and took a no-decision, allowing six earned runs on eight hits over five innings. Left-hander Henry Owens, who hadn't given up more than two earned runs in an appearance this season, allowed eight runs, six earned, on five hits over 3.1 innings. Eickhoff departed with the Pelicans leading 8-6.
Trailing 4-0, Deglan and Odor each belted two-run home runs in the first inning to help the Pelicans take a 5-4 first-inning lead. With the score tied 5-5 in the third inning, Bolinger hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run to center on a ball that the centerfielder, Henry Ramos, appeared to lose in the lights. An RBI single from Luis Sardinas gave the Birds a three-run advantage in the fourth inning.
Jacobs hit a solo home run in the fifth and Henry Ramos clubbed one of his own in the sixth inning to pull the Red Sox to within a run. Salem tied the game with an unearned run in the eighth inning. Jacobs finished with two solo home runs in the game.
The first-inning uprising was the Pelicans first multi-home run inning of the season. Six total home runs were belted between the two teams.
The Pelicans continue a four-game series Sunday with the Salem Red Sox. Right-hander Alec Asher (2-2, 2.94) will be opposed by Salem's right-hander Kyle Stroup (1-2, 4.30). First pitch is on tap for 3:05 p.m. EST.
