
Roberts, Bats Shut Down Rio Grande Valley, 12-1

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas starter Ralph Roberts allowed only two hits and three base runners through six innings, striking out four as the Dillas took care of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 12-1 on Tuesday night in front of 1,961 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Roberts (1-2) lowered his ERA from 14.14 to 9.9 with the outing, while the WhiteWings starter Stephen Whalen (0-2) left the game in the second with an apparent injury and allowed six runs, though only one run was earned. Dillas third baseman Carlos Figueroa went 3-4 with a homerun and five RBIs in the effort.
Amarillo would score in the first inning as Adam De La Garza led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a Figueroa RBI single. In the second, the Dillas scored five unearned runs after a two-run error scored Kent Wright and Jermel Lomack, while RBIs from TJ Warren, Figueroa and Stephen Douglas gave Amarillo a 6-0 lead.
The Dillas extended their lead in the third inning as Warren reached on an error with the bases loaded to score two runs, while Figueroa hit his third homerun to clear the bases for an 11-0 lead.
Roberts cruised through the sixth inning, retiring sixteen batters in-a-row at one point. Chris Nyman pitched a scoreless seventh, while the Dillas added one more run in the seventh on a Jones RBI single.
New reliever Joseph Muro pitched a scoreless eighth, while Zachary Cole pitched the ninth, allowed a solo homer from Joel Roa, but finished off the game for a 12-1 win.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 11-9, while the WhiteWings fall to 11-9. Wednesday, Amarillo will take on the WhiteWings for the third game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline by visiting www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. Wednesday's game will be free admission courtesy of West Texas A&M University Athletics.
