Birmingham Barons News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Despite Luis Robert's sixth home run of the season, the Birmingham Barons (27-44) fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts (38-33) by an 8-3 final Friday night at AT&T Field.
Robert, who homered for the second consecutive game with an opposite-field blast in the fourth, tied the game at one apiece at the time. The White Sox top-ranked prospect snapped an 0-for-17 skid with a two-run shot Thursday night.
No Barons player has homered in three straight contests since Seby Zavala accomplished the feat between May 7-9, 2018 against Pensacola.
Chattanooga regained the lead when Southern League home-run leader Ibandel Isabel deposited a three-run shot to left for his 16th deep fly of the season.
Birmingham cut the deficit to a pair of runs in the seventh when a throwing error allowed Gavin Sheets to cross the plate. Sheets then brought the Barons within a run with an RBI-double in the eighth.
The Lookouts responded, however, with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to open up an 8-3 advantage. Barons right-hander Alec Hansen was charged with all four runs and did not record an out.
Tanner Banks (L, 1-5) suffered the loss in six innings of work. The 27-year-old southpaw surrendered four runs on eight hits and struck out three in the defeat.
Left-hander Hunter Schryver and right-hander Mauricio Cabrera each recorded one scoreless inning in relief.
Chattanooga southpaw Packy Naughton (W, 3-3) picked up the win, his second of the season against Birmingham, after he tossed 6.2 innings of two-run ball. Fellow southpaw Juan Martinez earned his second save of the campaign.
The Barons and Lookouts will continue their five-game set Saturday as Birmingham sends right-hander Lincoln Henzman (0-2, 7.13) to the mound against Chattanooga left-hander Reiver Sanmartin (0-0, 0.00).
First pitch is slated for 6:15 p.m. CT at AT&T Field and the game will be broadcast via WJQX-FM 100.5. Coverage will begin at 6 p.m. with the Coca-Cola Pregame Show.
