March 15, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Toronto Roadrunners left wing Jamie Wright has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 14, 2004. In three games, Wright scored five goals, added one assist and recorded a plus-6 rating as the Roadrunners continued their hot play in the AHL's North Division.
Toronto played three home games on the week, and the native of nearby Kitchener, Ont., recorded multiple-point efforts in each one. On Wednesday, Wright tallied a goal and an assist as the Roadrunners dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to Milwaukee. Then on Friday, Wright scored twice in the third period of a wild 7-5 win over St. John's, and Saturday, he chipped in two more goals on a team-high nine shots as the Roadrunners shut out Manitoba, 3-0.
In recognition of his achievement, Wright will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Woolwich Minor Hockey Association in Wright's name.
Originally drafted by Dallas in 1994, Wright is in his first season in the Edmonton Oilers organization after signing as a free agent over the summer. He currently leads the Roadrunners with 22 goals, 26 assists and 48 points in 66 games this season.
