EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners completed the four-game sweep of the Amarillo Dillas with a 3-2 victory Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Edinburg's fifth straight win puts them in a tie for second place with the Dillas in the United League Standings.
Pedro Flores (4-3) picked up his fourth win of the season after he allowed two runs, none of which were earned, while scattering six hits in eight innings pitched.
Amarillo (29-27) got the scoring started in the third when Justin Wenger hit an RBI groundout that allowed Stantrel Smith to touch home plate for a 1-0 score.
Osiel Flores started the bottom of the third with a walk and then moved to second on a bunt single by Nick Aranda. With two runners in scoring position, Robert Matlock hit a two-run double to deep center field that allowed Flores and Aranda to score. Hunter Owen then followed with an RBI single to left that drove in Matlock from second to give the Roadrunners a 3-1 lead.
The Dillas scored a run against Flores in the seventh on an RBI double to right center field by Smith that allowed Trent Lockwood to score from first to make it a 3-2 game.
Brian Martin came in to pitch in the ninth and retired Lockwood for the first out of the inning and then was relieved by Kelly Casares who pitched two-thirds of the inning for his seventh save of the season.
The Roadrunners (29-7) welcome the Laredo Broncos as they start a four-game series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (5-4) is expected to face Gregorio Martinez (4-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
