Amarillo Dillas News Release

EDINBURG, TX - The Amarillo Dillas suffered their first four-game sweep of the season as the Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Dillas 3-2 on Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Dillas starter Ralph Roberts (5-3) got the loss, allowing all three Edinburg runs and six hits while striking out four in a complete game of work. Roadrunners starter Pedro Flores (4-3) got the win in eight innings of work, allowing only one earned run in the win. Edinburg reliever Kelly Casares got the save as he got the last two outs of the ninth for his seventh save of the season.

Amarillo got on the board first in the third inning as Stantrel Smith led off with a bunt single, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on an RBI groundout by Justin Wenger for a 1-0 Dillas lead.

Edinburg took the lead in the bottom half as a walk and a single put two runners on base. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners in scoring position as Robert Matlock doubled to right-center field for a two-run RBI double. With two outs, Hunter Owen singled to left field to score Matlock for a 3-1 Roadrunners lead.

Amarillo got one of the two runs back in the seventh as Trent Lockwood reached with a one-out fielder‘s choice and came across to score on an RBI double by Smith for a 3-2 score.

The Dillas had their best chance to take the lead in the eighth as two runners were on base for Terrance McClain. The Amarillo outfielder sliced the ball down the right field line, but was called just foul. The inning would end with no runners scoring.

Despite a ninth inning single by Smith and a stolen base, Edinburg second baseman Wilmer Pino robbed Justin Wenger of a game-tying single to end the game with the Roadrunners ahead 3-2.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 29-27, while the Roadrunners improve to 29-27. Saturday, Amarillo will travel back home to host the Coastal Bend Thunder for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pregame set for 6:55pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
