EDINBURG, Texas----Edinburg Roadrunners completed the sweep of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings with a 13-5 victory on Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Edinburg's starter Miguel Martinez (1-2) picked up his first win of the season on a complete game victory. He allowed five runs while scattering ten hits and striking out eleven.
Edinburg (12-12) batted around in the first and second innings. Robert Matlock and Eric Gonzalez walked to start the bottom of the first. After a fielder's choice that put runners on the corners, Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI single that scored Matlock for a 1-0 lead. Vincent Blue and Hereaud pulled off a double steal to put runners at second and third. Bryon Smith then followed with an RBI infield single that made the score 2-0. After another fielder's choice, Angel Reyes walked but ball four was a wild pitch that allowed Hereaud to score from third. Cameron McGuire then followed with a two-run triple that made the score 5-0.
In the second inning, Gonzalez walked and then Blue followed with a single. Hereaud and Smith each had RBI singles to make the score 7-0. Osiel Flores followed with an RBI double and one out later, McGuire singled to left that scored Smith from third for a 9-0 Roadrunners lead.
The WhiteWings (10-14) got their first runs of the game in the top of the sixth inning when Alberto Cruz hit a three-run homerun that made the score 9-3.
The Roadrunners scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth when Angel Reyes hit a triple to right center and scored on a throwing error that gave Edinburg a 13-3 lead.
Martinez allowed two more runs in the top of the eighth when Welinson Baez hit a two run double to right field and made the score 13-5.
The Roadrunners will travel to Robstown to take on the Coastal Bend Thunder for a four game series on Monday night at Fairgrounds Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
