Broncos Bust Out Bats In Victory Over Colts

Laredo, TX-the Laredo Broncos batted around in 2 different innings during the game, as they beat the San Angelo Colts by a score of 14-5 at Veterans Field, on Sunday.

The Colts grabbed the early lead in the top of the 2nd. Jason Landreth doubled to start off the inning and moved to 3rd on a groundout. Hank Lanto knocked in Landreth with a single giving San Angelo the 1-0 lead.

The Broncos had many opportunities to score in the first 3 innings. However, Colts starter Brett Lester would get out of the jams by having the Broncos ground into 3 double plays. Laredo still trailed by 1 run after 3 innings.

The Colts extended their lead in the top of the 4th. With Jason Landreth on 3rd and Hunter Jobes at 2nd with 1 away, Hank Lanto singled in Landreth. After a walk loaded the bases, Jason Diaz came up with 2 outs, and doubled scoring both Jobes and Lanto. That gave San Angelo the 4-0 lead.

The Broncos finally cracked the scoreboard in their half of the 4th. Luany Sanchez walked to start the inning, and advanced to 3rd on a double by Andres Santos. OJ Garza knocked in Sanchez with a single and moving Santos to 3rd. Jaime Morales then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Santos. Back to back walks to Ryan Flynn and Luis Ugueto loaded the bases for Laredo. With Miguel Ortiz at the plate, the Colts' starter Lester threw a wild pitch scoring Garza and moving Flynn to 3rd and Ugueto to 2nd. Ortiz then walked to load the bases. San Angelo then took out their starter as they brought in Douglas Brandt to pitch. Mario Mendez knocked in Flynn with a ground out. Argelis Nunez then reached on a throwing error by shortstop scoring Ugueto and moving Ortiz to 3rd. Luany Sanchez then hit a ground ball to 3rd baseman Jason Diaz who tried to get Nunez at 2nd, but throw went into right field allowing Ortiz to score and Nunez to go to 3rd. Sanchez was safe at 1st. With Andres Santos at the plate, Brandt threw a wild pitch allowing Nunez to score. The 7 run inning gave Laredo their first lead of the night by a score of 7-4.

The Broncos stuck again in the 5th inning. OJ Garza led off with a single, and then would go to 3rd after back to back walks to Jaime Morales and Ryan Flynn. Luis Ugueto then doubled into the left field corner scoring both Garza and Morales and moving Flynn to 3rd. Miguel Ortiz followed with a rbi single scoring Flynn and advancing Ugueto to 3rd. Mario Mendez then hit a rbi groundout with Ugueto scoring on the play. Argelis Nunez followed with a single moving Ortiz to 3rd. Luany Sanchez then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Ortiz. That extended Laredo's lead to 12-4.

The Broncos tacked on more runs in the 6th. With 2 outs Ryan Flynn walked, and then went to 3rd on a double by Luis Ugueto. Colts' reliever Douglas Brandt then threw a wild pitch which allowed Flynn to score and Ugueto to move to 3rd. Miguel Ortiz then reached on a throwing error by San Angelo's shortstop Butch Ballez, which allowed Ugueto to score. That gave Laredo a 10 run lead 14-4.

Travis Parker pitched well for the Broncos, as he made the spot start. He went 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 9 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 2. Carlos Alvarez came into the game in the 7th inning.

Alvarez went on to throw 2 scoreless innings of work as Nathan Crawford came into the game in the 9th to close the game out. Crawford would give up an rbi single to Jason Landreth, but it wouldn't be enough as the Broncos split the series with the Colts by a score of 14-5.

The Broncos scored 14 runs on 11 hits and had 1 error while the Colts scored 5 runs on 14 hits and had 5 errors.

The Broncos are now 8-16 on the season while the Colts are 16-8. The Broncos will next be in action Monday July 6th, as they start a 4 game series against the San Angelo Colts in San Angelo at 7:05.
