Roadrunners Sweep Double Dip

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners swept the double-header from the McAllen Thunder with scores of 8-2 and 4-1 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium pushing their win streak to four games.

The Roadrunners (13-16) gave Toro Trevino some run support in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Robert Matlock hit an RBI groundout that allowed Osiel Flores to score from third. R.J. Harris then followed with an RBI single that drove in Jamar Hill and Wellington Dotel. After stealing second base, Harris came into score on an RBI single by C.J. Beatty giving Edinburg the 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Edinburg added to their lead. Beatty led off with a double to left field and then came into score on an RBI double by Gabe Memmert. After Flores walked, Hill hit an RBI single to right field scoring Memmert from second. Stantrel Smith then followed with an RBI single that allowed Flores to score extending the Roadrunners lead 7-0.

The Thunder (13-16) got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth when Mike Goss hit a two-run double making it 7-2 Edinburg.

Beatty added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single that allowed Harris to score pushing the Roadrunners lead 8-2.

Evan Cunningham closed out the ball game with a perfect seventh inning giving Edinburg the 8-2 game one victory.

Toro Trevino (2-0) pitched six innings and allowed two runs while striking out three for his second win of the season.

In game two, Jorge Quintero (2-3) picked up his second win after pitching six innings and allowing one run, which was unearned, on just one hit and striking out two.

R.J. Harris got the Roadrunners (14-16) on the board with a two-run home run to right field making it 2-0.

Zach Mandelblatt got the Thunder (13-17) on the board in the top of the third. He reached after being hit by a pitch and then stole second but moved to third on a throwing error. A passed ball then allowed Mandelblatt to score from third cutting Edinburg's lead 2-1.

The Roadrunners added single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings which pushed their lead to 4-1.

Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his seventh save of the season and giving Edinburg the 4-1 win.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will wrap up their series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Left-hander James Giulietti (0-0) is expected to make his first start of the season with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
