Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals trailed the Yuma Scorpions 6-0 after the first inning of Saturday night's game at TELUS Field, but they battled their way back one inning at a time en route to a 12-8 victory that was called in the bottom of the seventh inning due to rain.
The shortened success was the Caps' third consecutive victory over the Scorpions, who feature player-manager and former Major League superstar Jose Canseco. Edmonton now has an impressive 18-11 record on the North American League season and sits just 1.5 games back of the Lake County Fielders for first place in the North Division.
First baseman Brent Metheny and right fielder Tom Collaro inflicted the majority of the damage on Canseco's crew, as they each went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, with Collaro hitting a home run and a triple, and Metheny also scoring three runs. Shortstop Enrique Cruz also had a productive night for the Caps, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Relief pitcher Brandon Villafuerte was awarded the victory, though he only pitched the seventh inning, as the Caps broke an 8-8 tie with four runs in the bottom of the seventh before the rain started pouring down and the game was finalized. Canseco didn't start the game for the Scorpions, though he was substituted in to play first base in the seventh inning but didn't have any at-bats.
Saturday was Taylor Hall Bobblehead Night at the ballpark, presented by Herbers Autobody & Repair, with free limited edition bobbleheads of the Edmonton Oilers sniper for the first 500 fans at the game. The supply didn't last long at all, as fans arrived early and snatched up all 500 just 12 minutes after doors opened.
The four-game series against the Scorpions wraps on Sunday with a 2 p.m. game, and it's another edition of Family Pack Sundays presented by 630 CHED and Dental Choice. Fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four Pepsi products for just $52, and there will be a post-game autograph session with the entire Capitals team.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
