St. George RoadRunners News Release

CHICO, CALIFORNIA - Bartolome Fortunato had a chance for redemption Thursday night after blowing a three run lead the night before. Jason Crosland, who doubled in Chico's comeback on Wednesday, stood in front of Fortunato's plan. A broken bat single plating a pair with the bases loaded gave the Outlaws their second straight come-from-behind win 4-3 over St. George at Nettleton Stadium.

The RoadRunners dropped to 8-6 in the second half and 33-21 overall. The club suffered their first series loss since the All Star Break.

In the fateful eighth, Dale Swinford drew a leadoff walk from RoadRunner starter Luis Gonzalez. Rich Janeway was hit a by a 0-2 curveball by Vic Darensbourg. St. George turned to a debuting Jon Asahina to notch two quick outs before allowing an infield single to Norm Hutchins. Fortunato was called to the mound and allowed the game winning hit to Crosland.

Darensbourg (0-2) takes the hard luck loss after being charged with the go-ahead run. Chico reliever Ben Shockey got the win following a solid start from Mikael Ryder.

The RoadRunners broke the seal on the scoreboard with two outs in the third. With Eric Pringle and Chase Leavitt on base, A.J. Valentine singled to center for his 61st RBI of the year. Jose Rodriguez and Cody Nowlin followed with run-scoring singles of their own to push the St. George advantage to 3-0.

Chico responded in the next half innings with a two-out rally. B.J. Underkofler singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Undekofler scored on a ground ball single to shortstop by Dale Swinford. Rich Janeway plated Swinford with a solid RBI double to left-center to cut the lead to 3-2.

St. George outhit the Outlaws 12-8, but could not kill every rally from the home team.

The road trip continues Friday night in Orange County with the first of three games with the Flyers. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05pm Mountain.
