
Roadrunners Stop Broncos' Win Streak With Victory

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners stopped the 10-game win streak of the Laredo Broncos with a 7-4 victory Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 3,023 in attendance.
Edinburg now leads the Amarillo Dillas, who lost to San Angelo, by a full game with the victory.
Wardell Starling (8-2) picked up his eighth win of the season after pitching five and a third innings not allowing a run and striking out seven.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Roadrunners (48-33) got on the board against Jeff Jamnik (4-4). Osiel Flores walked with two outs and then moved to second after Wilmer Pino was walked. Felix Molina then followed with an infield single but Jamnik booted the ball and that allowed Flores to score from third but while Jamnik walked back to the infield with his head down, Pino came into score giving Edinburg the 2-0 lead.
Carlos Hereaud started the bottom of the fifth with a single to center and then came into score on an RBI double by Robert Matlock. After a sacrifice bunt, Matlock came into score on an RBI single by Pino making it 4-0 Roadrunners.
The Broncos (43-40) got on the board in the top of the sixth against reliever Carlos Rangel. Jonel Pacheco walked with one out and then moved to second after Jose Canseco hit a single to center field. After Jonathan Cisneros walked to load the bases, Salvador Paniagua was hit by a pitch driving in Pacheco from third. Carlos Arroyo followed with an RBI single that allowed Canseco to score cutting the Roadrunners lead 4-2.
Edinburg answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a couple of their runs of their own. Daryl Jones led off the inning with a double to deep left center field and then moved to third on a ground out. Hereaud followed with an RBI single scoring Jones from third. Matlock then hit a double that put runners at first and second for Flores who hit an RBI single scoring Hereaud from third. With Matlock at third and one out, Pino hit a sacrifice fly allowing Matlock to score extending the Roadrunners lead 7-2.
Laredo added two more runs in the ninth before Julio Castro got the final out of the inning picking up his 22nd save of the season to give Edinburg the 7-4 victory.
The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the final game of this four-game series Sunday evening at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya (9-4) is expected to face Juan Peralta (8-4) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
