San Angelo Colts News Release

Amarillo, TX---Coming into Friday night's game San Angelo was tied with Rio Grande Valley for the fourth and final playoff spot with the countdown beginning and ten games to go. The Colts, after winning game one, looked to gather some momentum going into game two of the series. In a game in which the Colts led 4-1, San Angelo would get some heroics, bad news, and finally a loss, dropping the second game 5-4.

Amarillo would get on the board in the first inning for the second night in a row. Adam De La Garza had a leadoff single to begin the game and would score on a Julio Martinez RBI single to make it 1-0 Dillas. The Colts tied it in the fourth, when Ronnie Gaines scored on an error by second baseman Jermel Lomack to make the score 1-1. In the top of the fifth the Colts scored three to take their first lead of the game on an RBI single by Ronnie Gaines that drove in two and a Jason Landreth sac fly RBI to give San Angelo a 4-1 advantage. However at the bottom of that inning Amarillo scored a pair on a wild pitch and an RBI single by the league's leading hitter Joaquin Rodriguez to cut it to 4-3. It was in the eight that the Dillas would score a pair to take the lead for good at 5-4.

Lost in this game was a great pitching performance by Logan Williamson who went six and one-third innings allowing just three earned runs. A terrific relief performance in the seventh by Caleb Rodgers who struck out two with the bases loaded and one away to preserve a Colts 4-3 lead at the time. Ronnie Gaines went four for five with two RBIs. Colts righty and pitching coach, who was already the emergency catcher, came into the game to catch the second half of the game after not doing so since his college days. The bad news was Tyler Goodro, who injured his hamstring, may be out indefinitely and the WhiteWings winning dropped the Colts to fifth, one game out of the fourth and final playoff spot.

On Saturday the Colts play game three of this four game series against the Dillas. San Angelo sends out righty Brian Henschel (5-8, 6.11) who leads the league in complete games and innings pitched against righty Turner Brasher (2-0, 5.26) for Amarillo. Catch all the action beginning with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
