
Roadrunners Fall To Canseco, Broncos

EDINBURG, Texas---Jose Canseco went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI helping the Laredo Broncos defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners 17-5 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 3,012 in attendance.
With the loss, Edinburg falls into a first place tie with the Amarillo Dillas, who won Friday night.
The Broncos (43-39) got on the board in top of the first. Jose Pablo Oyervidez (2-1) walked Maiko Loyola with one out and then Jonel Pacheco followed with a single. Jose Canseco was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jonathan Cisneros who drove in a run with an RBI walk making it 2-0 Laredo.
With two outs in the top of the second inning, the Broncos put together four straight hits, which included an RBI single by Canseco, which allowed them to extend their lead 5-0.
Laredo picked up another run in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single by Salvador Paniagua that allowed Canseco to score making it 6-0 Broncos.
Canseco hit his third home run of the season to start the top of the seventh. Laredo then sent ten more hitters to the plate and picked up six more runs extending their lead to 13-0.
The Roadrunners (47-33) got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Carlos Hereaud hit a solo home run off of Matt Gibbs (7-3). A walk to Robert Matlock knocked Gibbs out of the game. Alexis Hernandez followed with a single and then Osiel Flores walked to load the bases. Wilmer Pino then hit a two-run double that allowed Matlock and Hernandez to score. A wild pitch allowed Flores to score and Pino to move to third. Nelson Teilon then hit an RBI ground out allowing Pino to score making 13-5 Broncos.
The Broncos added four more runs in the top of the ninth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run double by Canseco, extending their lead 17-5.
James Maxwell got the final three outs of the game to give Laredo the 17-5 victory.
The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the third game of this series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Wardell Starling (7-2) is expected to face Jeff Jamnik (4-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
