
Roadrunners Snap Skid with Win over Cats

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners snapped their four-game losing streak after defeating the Fort Worth Cats 5-1 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Agustin Septimo got the Roadrunners (21-27) on the board in the bottom of the first with his third home run of the season making it 1-0.
Edinburg added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning. With a runner at first, Ryde Rodriguez hit an RBI double to the left field corner scoring Trevor Whyte. Fernando De Los Santos then followed with an RBI single scoring Rodriguez making it 3-0.
Maximino De La Cruz (3-1) retired the last 16 batters he faced after allowing a single in the top of the first inning. He pitched six shutout innings for his third win of the season.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Roadrunners added to their lead. Whyte hit an RBI single to right field that scored Tim Maitland but a throwing error from the outfield allowed Septimo to score too making it 5-0 Edinburg.
The Cats (31-18) got on the board in the top of the eighth. After Nick Kuroczko reached on an error to start the inning, he came in to score on an RBI single by Chris Ellison making the score 5-1.
Cats' starter Roman Gomez (1-2) took the loss after pitching seven innings and allowing five runs while striking out five.
Alex Schmarzo picked up his first save of the season after pitching three innings in relief. He retired the side in the ninth giving Edinburg the 5-1 victory.
The Roadrunners and Cats will play game two of their four-game series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
