Colts Destroy WhiteWings in Series Opener

San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts scored in all but three innings, and crushed the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, 13-1, Saturday night at Foster Field.
The Colts trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but they overcame the small deficit with three runs in the second. Shortstop Jordan Marks hit a two-RBI single to give San Angelo a 2-1 lead. He then scored on an RBI base hit by left fielder Cody Hudson.
It was Hudson's first professional hit.
San Angelo then scored in every inning from the fourth through the seventh, and it was highlighted by a five-run fifth.
First baseman Steve Rinaudo led the inning off with his sixth home run of the year. Right fielder Joseph Hicks then doubled and scored on an RBI single by third baseman Ryan Hutson.
With two on and two out, Marks completed the five-run inning with a three-run homer. It was his fifth home run of the season.
WhiteWings' starter Bobby O'Neill (2-5) didn't get out of the fifth. He gave up eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings for the loss.
Meanwhile, Colts' starter B.J. Hyatt excelled. Hyatt (1-0) allowed a run on just three hits through five innings for his first win since 2009.
The win improves San Angelo to 25-24, while the loss drops Rio Grande Valley to 25-23. This series continues Sunday with KSAN Pack the Park Night. Every ticket to Sunday's game is free, courtesy of KSAN, San Angelo's News Channel. The Colts' box office will open at 4:05 p.m.
Gates open at 5:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
The Colts are in the midst of a 12-game home stand. The home stand runs from Tuesday, July 9 through Saturday, July 20, and in that time the Colt face the Fort Worth Cats, Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, and Edinburg Roadrunners. After this home stand, the Colts begin an eight-game road trip against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and the Edinburg Roadrunners. The Colts then return home for their last 12-game home stand of the regular season on Tuesday, July 30.
