Roadrunners Slam Colts for Second Straight Night

June 16, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas---For the second straight night it was a late-inning home run that proved to be the Colts' downfall, as they fell to the Edinburg Roadrunners 10-7 Thursday night at Foster Field. Roadrunners center fielder Stantrel Smith (2) hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to give Edinburg its final margin.

Logan Williamson started the game for San Angelo, bidding to become the first four-game winner in the North American League and left the game with the Colts in front. The only real trouble Williamson got into was in the fourth inning when he allowed a pair of Roadrunners runs to score on three doubles.

The Colts got on the board first for the first time in their last four games, when Ronnie Gaines (9) led off the top of the first inning with a solo home run. The big inning for San Angelo came in the fifth when the first two hitters reached before Clay Calfee and Jason Crosland followed with a double and a triple that helped the Colts take a 6-4 lead.

That lead lasted until the seventh, when with two outs Edinburgh loaded the bases and chased reliever Steve MacFarland from the game. David Parker came on and gave up Smith's big blast. Each team added a run in the ninth to make it 10-7.

Evan Cunningham (1-0, 0.00) earned the win in relief for Edinburgh, while MacFarland (1-3, 8.64) was hit with the loss. Julio Castro (6) pitched the ninth for the Roadrunners to pick up his sixth save.
