Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals hit an impressive five home runs and put 20 runs across the plate as they blew out the Chico Outlaws 20-8 on Wednesday night at TELUS Field to open a mini three-game series with the California squad.
First baseman Brent Metheny was a one-man wrecking crew for the Caps, going 4-for-5 with a towering home run, three runs scored and a whopping seven RBI. Not to be outdone was centre fielder Steve Brown, who had a perfect 4-for-4 night at the plate, including two home runs - one of which was a grand slam - five runs scored and five RBI. Right fielder Tom Collaro hit the team's fifth home run, scored a pair of runs and racked up four RBI.
The Caps' pitching effort wasn't particularly stellar, but it didn't need to be, thanks to the explosive offensive output. Major League veteran Albie Lopez got the start and earned the win with five innings pitched, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out three Outlaws. Mike Hrynio, Jorge Vasquez and Brandon Villafuerte got the job done from there, racking up six more strikeouts to give Caps pitchers an amazing 56 over their last five games.
Wednesday's series opener was another K-97 Wiener Wednesday, as those mouth-watering ballpark hot dogs were on sale for just $2. The three-game set at TELUS Field continues Thursday and Friday with two more 7 p.m. games.
Thursday's contest is another installment of Thirsty Thursdays presented by Hudsons Canadian Tap House, The Bear and Virgin Radio, featuring $3 beer. And Friday's series finale is the second Fireworks Friday of the season presented by 92.5 JOE FM, featuring an outstanding post-game fireworks display.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
