
RoadRunners Sign Former Double-A All-Star

The St. George RoadRunners Professional Baseball Team on Thursday announced the signing of Jonathan Asahina, a right-handed pitcher from Fresno, CA. He will be active to pitch beginning tonight in the series finale against the Chico Outlaws.
Asahina, 28, has an eight-year career record of 38-51 in 194 games. He spent last season with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League posting a 1-2 record in 36 appearances including two starts. For the Ducks, he tossed 55 innings with a 6.05 ERA.
From 2004-2007, Asahina pitched in the Colorado Rockies organization topping out in Triple-A Colorado Springs in 2006. In 2005 with Tulsa (AA), he was named a Texas League All-Star pitcher compiling a 12-10 record with four complete games and one shutout.
The first three years of his professional career were spent with the Florida Marlins after being selected in the 31st round of the 2000 amateur entry draft. In the Marlins farm system, Asahina notched 14 wins and never had a season ERA over 4.10.
Born and bred in Fresno, he prepped at Edison High School and pitched collegiately at Fresno City College. At FCC, Asahina was named a two-time junior college All-American and still ranks
