Victoria Seals News Release
Victoria, BC - Set to face the Edmonton Capitals for the final time this season, the Victoria Seals returned to Royal Athletic Park for game three on Thursday afternoon As the Capitals turned to ace Lou Pote (6-2) for the start, the Seals answered back with newly-signed Aaron Trolia (0-0) in the rubber match.
Jumping onto the scoreboard in the top of the first, Edmonton grabbed a 1-0 lead when a single from Joey Gomes along with an error to Victoria centre fielder Gabriel Riley brought in Kevin House after his walk earlier in the frame. The Seals would knot the game up in the bottom of the inning, though, when Jamar Hill lifted his team-leading 13th home run of the year to tie the score 1-1.
The Capitals would then use a long ball of their own to take the lead back in the top of the second, when former Seal Carlos Duncan put the visitors up 2-1 with a lead-off home run. But Victoria would respond to tie the game in the bottom of the frame once more, when Terry Mermer picked up a lead-off homer for the Seals to even the score.
Following a scoreless third and fourth frames, the Capitals would move out front for good in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back singles from John Pasieka and Jorge Cortes to start the inning made it 3-2 when House reached on an error to Brett Flowers. Still without an out in the frame, a single from Darryl Brinkley put Edmonton up by two.
Then the Capitals opened the game up in the top of the sixth, getting a double from Duncan home on an RBI base hit from Cortes for a 5-2 lead. With House adding another single in the frame to load the bases, Brinkley cleared the runners with a double to left-centre field to propel Edmonton to an 8-2 advantage.
Despite a single run from Victoria in the bottom of the sixth, the Capitals would continue to pad their lead in the eighth frame, using another Seals' error to score House for a 9-3 lead. Edmonton would then finish off their scoring on another home run from Carlos Duncan - this time to lead off the ninth inning - en route to a 10-3 victory.
Lou Pote recovers from a pair of tough outings against the Seals to earn his seventh win on the season, while Victoria reliever Chris Bodishbaugh is handed the loss. Darryl Brinkley was again electric for Edmonton, finishing 2-for-4 with 4 RBI's while Carlos Duncan burned his old team once again with a pair of home runs in the series finale.
