St. George RoadRunners News Release

San Ramon, CA June 1, 2009: The Golden Baseball League announced today that Tucson Toros RHP Lorenzo Barcelos and Calgary Vipers OF Drew Miller have been named GBL Players of the Week for the first week of the season. The first week actually encompasses the first 10 days of the GBL since the teams opened on Thursday and Friday nights this season.

Miller, 29, 6-1, 215, has started this season where he left off from a spectacular 2008 campaign that saw him named as a GBL All-Star and finish in the Top Ten in most hitting categories in the league. Undrafted out of Oklahoma Baptist after a fine collegiate career, Miller played three seasons in the Frontier League before becoming an original Viper when Calgary began play in 2005. He has been a starting outfielder for all four seasons and is a perennial fan favorite as he has improved at the plate each year. During the first week of the 2009 GBL season, he hit .450, led the league in Home Runs with 4 and Runs with 16, he was second in RBIs with 13, and also second in both hits with 18 and Slugging Average at .850. Miller was also outstanding in th field and instrumental in Calgary's 7-3 start to the season.

Barcelo, 31, 6-4, 220 was signed as a 17 year old in the Dominican Republic by the San Francisco Giants. He rose through their farm system, was traded to the Chicago White Sox and spent three seasons in the major leagues with the pale hose. Starting twice in the first week of the season, he went 2-0 with a league-leading ERA of 0.71 as he pitched 12.2 innings while striking out 14 and walking none.
