Roadrunners Rally Past Cats for Fifth Straight

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Fort Worth Cats 5-3 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium extending their win streak to five games.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Edinburg scored three runs on two hits knocking out Cats starter James Giulietti (1-3). Vincent Blue recorded the tying RBI single to right field that allowed Tim Battle to score.

A sacrifice fly by Jose Ruiz in the top of the first gave the Cats the early 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (18-12) answered in the bottom of the first against James Giulietti. With two outs in the inning, Wilmer Pino singled and then came around to score on an RBI double by Carlos Hereaud that tied things at one.

Fort Worth (16-13) got an RBI double by Chad Gabriel in the top of the third that allowed Jon Dziomba to score for the 2-1 advantage.

Hereaud then tied the game at two with an RBI single in the bottom of the third that allowed Vincent Blue to score.

After the Cats took the 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, Edinburg took the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back walks to Stantrel Smith and Tim Battle with two outs set up the inning. Blue then followed with a single to right that allowed Battle to score and then a throwing error allowed Smith to score giving Edinburg the 5-3 lead.

The Roadrunners bullpen took over. Paul Koss recorded the final two outs of the eighth and did not allow a run while Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season giving Edinburg the 5-3 victory.

Rusty Jones (2-0) got the win after pitching an inning and a third in relief for starter Ryan Smith who allowed two runs, one earned, while striking out six.

The Roadrunners and Cats will play the third game of their four-game series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Dave Dinelli (1-3) is expected to face Kane Holbrooks (0-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
