Colts Surge to 8-3 Win vs. Abilene

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts scored five unanswered runs to defeat the Abilene Prairie Dogs 8-3 Saturday night at Foster Field.

San Angelo took a 3-0 lead in the first, courtesy of a bases loaded, three-run double by left fielder Jamar Walton. His double scored centerfielder Ronnie Gaines, right fielder J.J. Sherrill and designated hitter Cory Patton.

Walton became the first Colt to drive in four runs this season, going 2-for-4 with the four RBIs.

Abilene rallied for three runs in the next three innings to even the game. Prairie Dogs' designated hitter Gunner Glad had an RBI single in the second and scored following a leadoff double in the fourth. Glad finished the night 3-for-4.

The Colts regained the lead, and maintained it with a three-run fifth inning. Gaines, Sherrill and first baseman Daryl Jones all scored.

On the mound, Colts' starter Mike Hart (2-0) gave up three runs on five hits and struck out six Prairie Dogs in five innings. He earned the win in his first start at a Colt.

Abilene starter Woods Fines (1-4) lasted just 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. In that time, Fines surrendered six runs on as many hits and walked four batters.

The win improves the Colts to 14-15, while the loss drops Abilene to 13-16 this season.

The series continues Sunday night at Foster Field. It will another Grand Slam Sunday, sponsored by Fiddlestrings. One lucky fan will leave the ballpark with a 47" HDTV, courtesy of Fiddlestrings. Gates open at 5:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
