Roadrunners Get First Win Against Dillas

AMARILLO, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Amarillo Dillas for the first time this season with a 10-6 victory Wednesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Miguel Martinez (3-2) picked up his third win of the season after he allowed six runs while scattering ten hits and striking out five in six and a third innings of work.

The Dillas (18-16) got the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI groundout by Carlos Figueroa that scored Keanon Simon from third. Trent Lockwood then followed with an RBI triple that scored Terrance McClain from second for a two run lead. Lockwood touched home plate on a wild pitch by Martinez that gave Amarillo a 3-0 lead after an inning.

In the second, the Roadrunners (17-17) got an RBI double from Cameron McGuire that cut the lead to 3-1.

Edinburg took the lead for good in the top of the third after Bryon Smith hit a two-run single followed by B.J Wheeler's two-run triple in the inning. McGuire capped the inning off with a two-run home run that made it a 7-3 game in favor of the Roadrunners.

In the top of the fourth, Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI double that extended the Edinburg lead 8-3.

Amarillo responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth on an RBI triple by Eric Brown and a sacrifice fly by Justin Wenger to cut the Roadrunner lead 8-5.

The Dillas scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a wild pitch that allowed McClain to score to make it 8-6.

In the top of the seventh inning, Amado German hit an RBI groundout that scored Wheeler from third and Robert Matlock followed with a single to left field that allowed McGuire to touch home plate to end the scoring and give Edinburg their first win this season against Amarillo 10-6.

Brian Martin and Bryan Heaston combined for two and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball for the Roadrunners.

Edinburg and Amarillo will play game three of this four-game series on Thursday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Aaron Guerra (1-2) is expected to face Ralph Roberts (2-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
