AMARILLO, TX - The Edinburg Roadrunners were finally able to hold a lead against the Amarillo Dillas as they got in front early and defeated the Dillas 10-6 on Wednesday night, for the first time in six tries, at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa in front of 3,860 fans.
Dillas starter Justin Phillips (0-1) got the loss in his first appearance with Amarillo as he gave up eight runs and eight hits in an out past five innings of work. Roadrunners starter Miguel Martinez (3-2) got the win in six and a third innings of work, allowing ten hits and six runs while striking out five.
The Dillas got on the board early in the game as Keanon Simon singled to lead off the first. He would go to second on an error, third on a groundout and score on a Carlos Figueroa groundout. Next, Terrance McClain doubled and scored on a Trent Lockwood RBI triple. Lockwood would come across the plate on a wild pitch to give Amarillo a 3-0 lead.
Edinburg would get on the scoreboard in the second with a Cameron McGuire RBI double to pull the deficit to two. The Roadrunners would breakout in the third with six runs off four hits including a 2-run homer from McGuire for a four run lead. They would add another in the fourth with a Carlos Hereaud RBI double to lead by a score of 8-3.
Amarillo would try to comeback in the fourth inning as Lockwood walked and scored on a triple from brand new Dilla Eric Brown, while Brown would score on a Justin Wenger RBI sac fly. They would add another in the sixth as McClain reached and scored on a wild pitch for a 8-6 Roadrunners lead.
Edinburg added two more in the seventh with an Amado German groundout and an RBI single by Robert Matlock to drop Amarillo back down to four runs.
The Dillas would have a great chance to get back in the game in the seventh as the bases were loaded with one out, but Figueroa grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Roadrunners relievers Brian Martin and Brian Heaston combined to pitch the last three innings without Amarillo bringing home a run to give the Dillas a 10-6 loss.
