
Colts Win 6-2, Elkind Picks Up Second Victory

San Angelo, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts (24-10) moved to 14 games over .500 while winning their second straight game over the Coastal Bend Thunder with a score of 6-2.
The Colts got on the board in the second inning, after a leadoff single by Jason Landreth, Thunder starter James Kuzniak allowed walks to Josh Collazo, Nick Mahin, and Butch Ballez. The free passes pushed in Landreth, Colts led 1-0. With two outs in the inning, Bradley Goldsmith looped a single to right field scoring Collazo and Mahin giving the Colts a three run lead. Jason Diaz followed with a double over the left fielders head scoring Ballez and Goldsmith. San Angelo was up 5-0 after two innings.
Colts starter Kenny Elkind worked the first five innings allowing just a run, none were earned. In a 5-1 ballgame, Jacob Ramos replaced Elkind in the sixth. After allowing the first two hitters to reach on a walk and a single, Carlos Rodriguez sent a shot off the top of the wall in left centerfield, driving in Leivi Ventura. Rodriguez stood at second, and Manny Mejia remained at third. Ramos then recorded back to back strikeouts. With runners still in scoring position, Brett Lester was brought in to face right hander Chris Lewis. Lester coaxed Lewis into a flyout stranding two runners, as the Colts held a 5-2 lead.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Collazo began the inning with a single. Josh advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Mahin lifted a fly ball to right field. After the out was recorded, Collazo bluffed a tag from second. Right Fielder Carlos Rodriguez came up firing, the ball reached the second row of seats just beyond the third base dugout. Collazo was rewarded homeplate, the score became 6-2 in San Angelo's favor.
Kenny Elkind (2-0) delivered six innings allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out four for his second win as a Colt. Brett Lester worked two and 1/3 in a relief role without allowing a run.
San Angelo's offense delivered five hits and six runs. Bradley Goldsmith collected a single and a double with two RBI's and a run scored. The double by Jason Diaz drove in two runs as well.
San Angelo and Coastal Bend will continue their series at Foster Field on Thursday for Thirsty Thursday/ dollar beer night sponsored by Miller Lite . First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
