
Roadrunners Drop Two in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners lost both games of a double-header with the San Angelo Colts on Sunday night at Foster Field with a 3-2 loss in the first game and a 6-0 loss in game two. In the first game, which was continued from the fourth inning, the Roadrunners had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Carlos Hereaud that allowed Wilmer Pino to score from third.
Pedro Flores pitched six scoreless innings against the Colts but after allowing a leadoff single to Butch Ballez, he was relieved in the bottom of the seventh by Austin Bridges. Jason Diaz then hit an RBI single that allowed Ballez to score which tied things up at one.
Hereaud and Hunter Owens led off the top of the eighth inning with back-to-back walks from Brett Lester (4-2). Bryon Smith then moved them up with a sacrifice bunt to put the two runners in scoring position. Vincent Blue then hit an RBI ground out that allowed Hereaud to score for a 2-1 Edinburg lead.
Nick Mahin hit a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning against Edinburg reliever Bryan Heaston (0-4) that allowed Jason Landreth and Josh Collazo to score that gave the Colts a 3-2 lead.
Chace Vacek pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10th save of the season.
In second game, Brian Henschel (7-3) picked up his seventh win of the season on his fourth straight complete game and allowed just two hits in the seven inning game.
The Colts' offense got on the board early against Aaron Guerra (1-4) by loading the bases in the bottom of the second inning for Hunter Jobes who hit a ground out to first that drove in Jason Landreth for the first run of the game. An error by the Roadrunners allowed Butch Ballez to score and then Ronnie Gaines followed with an RBI single that made it a 3-0 game.
San Angelo extended their lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Nick Mahin that drove in Landreth from second base followed by Ballez with an RBI double that allowed Josh Collazo to score from secondto give the Colts' a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth an RBI single by Hunter Jobes allowed Bryan Frichter to score from third that extended the Colts lead, and gave them the eventual win 6-0.
The Roadrunners (24-27) and Colts (36-15) will play the final game of this four-game series on Monday night at Foster Field. Tim Haines (5-4) is expected to face Andrew Coffey (2-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
