Roadrunners Drop Series Finale to Aces

EDINBURG, Texas - The Alexandria Aces got a strong performance from Jon Jones as they took the series finale from the Edinburg Roadrunners 10-1 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Jon Jones (4-1) pitched six innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out six.

The Aces (19-17) got a two-run single from Derrick Pyles in the top of the first and then Alex Foltz later added a two-run double giving them the 4-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (15-21) answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Tim Maitland led off the inning with a single and then, after moving to second on a ground out, he came around to score on Bobby Rinard's RBI single that made it 4-1.

In the top of the second, Pyles drove in two more runs with a double that scored Zack Cadet and Newll pushing the Aces lead 6-1.

Alexandria added a run in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth with RBI singles from Nick Mahin and Newell extending their lead 9-1.

The Aces added one more in the top of the eighth as Michael Calderon and Nathan Stewart combined for three shutout innings of relief giving Alexandria the 10-1 victory.

Guadalupe Barrera (1-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs in four and two-third innings of work while striking out four.

The Roadrunners will open a four-game series with the McAllen Thunder starting Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Sunday's series opener against the McAllen Thunder will be RGV Food Bank Night where four cans of food get you a general admission ticket.
