Colts Trade Garcia to Normal

San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts announced Saturday they have traded centerfielder Oscar Garcia to the Normal CornBelters of the independent Frontier League in exchange for outfielder Matt Wright.

Garcia, 24, started every game in centerfield for the Colts. In 35 games, Garcia hit .331 with 11 RBIs and a team-high 12 stolen bases. Garcia's average was also fifth-best in the United League.

Garcia joins the CornBelters as they begin a four-game series against the Rockford Aviators in Rockford, Ill. Garcia has a.255 batting average, two home runs and 52 RBIs in 145 career games.

Wright hit .167 with two homers and seven RBIs in 27 games for Normal this season. He was the centerfielder in each game he played with the CornBelters.

The 24-year-old began his pro career last season in the Frontier League with the London Rippers/Road Warriors. He hit .224 with two home runs and 30 RBIs in 71 games as a rookie. Now in his second professional season, Wright has a career .209 batting average, four homers, and 37 RBIs in 98 games.

The Colts conclude their four-game series with the McAllen Thunder tonight at Foster Field. It is Tote Bag Giveaway Night. The first 1,000 fans through the front gates will receive a free, re-useable tote bag, courtesy of the Colts. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

The Colts are in the midst of an eight-game home stand. After their four-game series against the Thunder, the Colts will play four games against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.
