A Big Sixth Inning Ends Cats' Road Trip with a Win

Fort Worth Cats News Release

A four-run sixth inning pushed the Fort Worth Cats to a 6-2 win and series victory Saturday night over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in Harlingen.

The Fort Worth Cats (23-13) started the scoring early in the evening after second baseman Ryan Miller scored on a Chris Ellison single.

Both teams would go cold on offense as starting pitching by both squads impressed. Rio Grande Valley starter Bobby O'Neill started strong but the sixth inning quickly unraveled for him on the mound. Shelby Ford singled to right to bring home Chris Ellison, followed by a David Bergin double that pushed across two more Cats runs. The fourth run of the inning was driven in by Chris Christopoulos to bring the Cats lead to 5-0.

Cats starter Tyler Wilson, recently acquired in a trade from Edinburg, went six scoreless innings while only giving up five hits and striking out four.

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (17-19) finally reached home plate in the eighth inning to cut the Cats lead to 5-2 but the Cats would add an extra insurance run in the final frame to put any comeback hope to bed.

The Cats head home to Fort Worth to begin an 8-game homestand beginning Sunday night at 7:05. Alexandria Aces will be the first series in town. July 3 and 4 should be an exciting time as fireworks will be displayed following both games. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
