
Alexandria defeats Edinburg

EDINBURG- Jon Jones threw six strong innings and Derrick Pyles drove in four runs as the Alexandria Aces pounded the Edinburg Roadrunners, 10-1.
Pyles gave the Aces their initial 2-0 lead with a 2-run single to left off Guadalupe Barrera (1-1) in the top of the first innning. In the second, his opposite field double to right field after Austin Newell was intentionally walked with two out scored both Zack Cadet and Newell to give Alexandria a commanding 6-1 advantage.
Pyles would finish with three hits and two runs scored.
Jones (4-1), meanwhile, enjoyed his second straight quality start in Edinburg, allowing only four hits to the Roadrunners and one walk along with a single run. He struck out six batters and is now tied for the league lead in victories.
Michael Calderon also pitched two perfect innings of relief and Nathan Stewart added a scoreless ninth. The three Aces (19-17) pitchers combined to retire 13 straight Roadrunners (15-21) from the fifth throught the ninth innings.
The Aces now head to Fort Worth for a four game series with the Cats, who lead the Aces by four games in the United League standings. Lefty Dan Schmidt (3-1) pitches for Alexandria against Aaron Wilkerson (4-1) at 7:05 p.m.
