Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners (5-3) snapped their two game losing streak with an 8-3 victory over the Coastal Bend Thunder (3-4) Wednesday night at Fairgrounds Field.
Eric Montoya (2-0) took the hill for the Roadrunners and got the win after he allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits in six innings of work.
The Roadrunners got to Thunder starter Zach Beal (1-1), who got the loss, in the top of the first inning. After he allowed a leadoff walk and three consecutive singles, the Roadrunners put up three runs on three hits.
But the Thunder answered right back in the bottom half of the first inning with two runs of their own. Manny Mejia hit an RBI single that scored Casey Gordon from second base which made the score 3-1. A throwing error from the Roadrunners' defense allowed Mejia to score from third and cut the early Roadrunner lead to 3-2.
The Roadrunner's offense added some more runs to their lead in the top of the third inning. Angel Reyes and Amado German each had an RBI walk to contribute to a three run inning making the score 6-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Amado German had an RBI groundout to third that allowed Carlos Hereaud to score which gave the Roadrunners a 7-2 advantage.
The Roadrunners scored again in the top of the sixth inning on a throwing error by Coastal Bend pitcher Alex Gett which allowed Robert Matlock to score and give them an 8-2 lead.
The Thunder added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single off the bat of Leivi Ventura which made the score 8-3.
The Roadrunners' relief pitching did its job once again as Brian Martin and Austin Bridges came out of the bullpen and combined for three innings of scoreless baseball.
The Roadrunners and Thunder play the final game of their four-game series Thursday night at the Fairgrounds Field. The Roadrunners look for the series split as they send Tim Haines to the mound for the scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
