Broncos Take Game Three of the Series

SAN ANGELO, Texas--- It was a four run fourth inning and a strong pitching performance from Gregorio Martinez that gave the Laredo Broncos (2-5) their second win of the season as they deafeated the San Angelo Colts (4-3), 8-4.

In the top of third inning the Colts trailed 2-0, San Angelo would load the bases setting the table for Shan Sullivan who would single scoring Jason Landreth. Then Catcher Hank Lanto grounded to Laredo shortstop Ryan Flynn who would commit a throwing error scoring Brian Nichols and keeping the inning alive. Butch Ballez would single home one more run as the Colts took a 3-2 lead.

The Broncos would respond immediately, with runners on second and third in the bottom of the third, third baseman Rafael Ozuna would double in two runs as the Broncos regained the lead. In the same inning, Jake Wells would also double just inside fair territory down the right field line scoring Ozuna and Miguel Ortiz pushing the Broncos lead to 6-3. Martinez and the rest of the Broncos pitching staff would only allow one more Colt run from that point on.

Martinez (1-1) would earn his first win of the year, going six innings, scattering nine hits and allowing just one earned run. Drew Coffey (0-1) suffered his first loss allowing three earned runs in four innings of work earning a strikeout allowing three base on balls. Joe Key would work two innings allowing an earned run and Matt Duff and Chace Vacek would throw a scoreless seventh and eighth.

Offensively for the Colts they would be led by the hot hitting Bryan Frichter. The second baseman entered the game hitting .500 on the nose. Frichter would record three hits, a double and a single, including a run scored and two stolen bases. Brian Nichols, Shan Sullivan, and Butch Ballez each had two hits, respectively. Ballez earned one RBI, while Jason Landreth had the other.

First pitch is set for 7:35 tomorrow at Veterans Field in Laredo. The Colts look to leave Laredo tying the series at two games apiece. On Friday the Colts will begin a four game set with Rio Grande Valley in San Angelo at Foster Field.
