San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas--- It took Brian Henschel just two hours and 34 minutes to throw his first complete game of the year, and earn his second victory of the season. Henschel threw just 91 pitches, scattering eight hits and allowing two earned runs, while striking out five as the Colts defeated the Laredo Broncos 7-2.

Trailing 2-0, the Colts would load the bases in the top of the fifth. Hunter Jobes, who was 2-20 to begin the season lifted a shallow fly ball to right center field falling in, scoring Hank Lanto. The bases would remain loaded when Bryan Frichter grounded to shortstop, the Broncos were unable to turn the double play and another run would score knotting the game at two. Then with runners on the corners, Jason Landreth would hit a hard ground ball down the third base line which would carom high off the bag, as a run would score. Landreth was awarded an RBI single. That would give the Colts a 3-2 lead and they wouldn't relinquish that lead the rest of the way.

In the seventh inning the bases would again be loaded for San Angelo, with two strikes Brian Nichols found a gap in left center field, two runs would score pushing the lead to 5-2.

That would be all the help that Henschel would need. The right hander would shut the Broncos down for the final five innings as the Colts (4-2) would go on to win their fourth game of the year. The Broncos (1-5) suffered their fifth loss of the young season.

It was a group effort offensively as four Colts recorded two hits in the win. Jobes had two hits including two RBI's, Nichols added two RBI's. Ronnie Gaines, Bryan Frichter, and Nick Mahin each collected two hits. Gaines was the only Colt to record an extra base hit with his double in the eighth. The Broncos and Colts each own one game in the series, the third game of the four game set will be tomorrow at Veterans Field in Laredo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30.
