St. George RoadRunners News Release

ST. GEORGE - The beautiful thing about the game of baseball is that no matter what happens early, there are always plenty of chances to comeback. Down 6-0 after two innings to the visiting Tucson Toros, the St. George RoadRunners did not roll over, but capped off a miraculous comeback in the seventh inning on Jose Rodriguez's RBI double to give the home club the 9-8 victory.

St. George improved to 14-6 on the season while the Toros fell to 6-8.

RoadRunner starter David Seccombe allowed six runs in the first two innings including a solo HR to leadoff man Skip Adams. Seccombe settled down to allow only one further run in 5.1 innings.

Raymar Diaz notched the win (1-0) scattering an earned run on four hits. Julio Castro tossed a scoreless eighth while Bartolome Fortunato picked up his fifth save with two strikeouts in the ninth.

The comeback in the seventh inningbegan when Angel Sanchez was walked and A.J. Valentine was hit by a pitch. Yosvany Almario laid down a bunt, but the throw from Chris Luera (L, 0-2) sailed over the head of the defender at first. Sanchez scored, but Valetine was held at third unbeknownst to Almario who slid into third only to be tagged out because two guys occupied the bag. After a ground out, Rodriguez faced side-armer Albert Montes and doubled to the wall in left field scoring Valentine.

Rodriguez finished the night 3-for-3 with a double, two homers, three runs scored and 4 RBIs. Almario was the only other RoadRunner with at least two hits.

Tucson pounded out 14 hits with five Toro players had two hits apiece.

Game two of the series is tomorrow afternoon at 3:05pm as part of Star Wars Saturday. St. George is expected to start Mac Nelson (3-0, 7.04) for his fifth start of the season. Nelson received a no-decision going four innings on June 7 in Edmonton.

Characters from the 501st Legion will be in Star Wars costumes and taking pictures with the fans. After the game, the team will host the RoadRunners Band Jam. Local bands will play into the night. Come and enjoy all of the action on Saturday.

Radio coverage begins at 2:45pm on the Infowest Pre-Game Show with the voice of the RoadRunners, John Potter.

. On Saturday afternoon, the RoadRunners celebrate a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars Night. The game at 3:05pm will feature real Star Wars characters and family entertainment. Purchase tickets by calling the RoadRunners Hotline at 435-673-5333 or online at StGeorgeRoadRunners.com.
