Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that forward Stephen Peat has agreed to terms on a contract for the upcoming 2008-09 season.
Peat, 28, tallied eight goals, 10 points, and 234 penalty minutes in 130 games during a three-year NHL career from 2001-04 with the Washington Capitals. The Princeton, British Columbia native and eighth-year professional made his NHL debut on Oct. 10, 2001 against the New York Rangers and appeared in 38 games that season with the Capitals where he registered two goals, two assists, and 85 penalty minutes. Peat played the duration of the 2003-04 season with Washington and notched five goals and 90 penalty minutes in 64 games.
Peat has also totaled three goals, seven points, and 155 penalty minutes in 50 games in the American Hockey League with the Portland Pirates, Hershey Bears, Lowell Lock Monsters, and Albany River Rats. He has not played since January 2007 after suffering a season-ending leg injury in a game with the River Rats against Norfolk.
Peat was selected by the Anaheim Ducks with the 32nd overall pick at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. His rights were later traded to Washington on June 1, 2000 in exchange for a draft pick. Peat played for the Canadian National Team in 1994-95 and was the recipient of the 1997 Rookie of the Year award as a member of the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.
Peat joins a RoadRunners' roster that already includes forwards Josh Bonar, Mitch Carefoot, Wes Clark, Kimbi Daniels, Dan DaSilva, Andrew Desjardins, Bryan Esner, Gino Guyer, James McEwan, Daniel Sisca, Peder Skinner, Chris Stevens, and Geoff Walker; defenseman Andrew Andricopoulos, Matt Burke, T.J.
