Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 21)- All good things must come to an end and this remains true as the Brahmas seven game winning streak ended in Mississippi. The RiverKings defeated the Brahmas 5-1.
The RiverKings were able to get on the board early as forward Ryan Campbell scored a powerplay goal two minutes in the game on Brahmas goaltender Brett Jaeger.
Minutes later, the 'Kings were back on the board with an even-strength goal, putting them up 2-0.
Texas fought back though, figuratively and literally. One of Texas' grittiest players, Greg McConnell, hoping to reenergize his team, took on Brian Mullally in the opening period. The two exchanged only a couple of blows until McConnell was able to pull Mullally's sweater off.
The second period started in the Brahmas favor as sharpshooter Scott Sheppard scored his 20th of the season from Blair Manning and Justin Kinnunen.
The Brahmas' celebration didn't last long as Mississippi scored once again, putting them up 3-1 going into the second intermission.
The third period was ugly for Texas. Jaeger, not getting much help from his teammates, allowed two more goals, resulting in a 5-1 loss. Adding insult to injury, both benches cleared after the horn to continue the brutal exchanges they had throughout the game.
The Brahmas return home to the NYTEX Sports Centre tomorrow night to face Northeast rivals Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for a 7:05 PM faceoff. Prior to the game, Texas will honor captain Blair Manning with a pre-game ceremony. For ticket information contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or log on to www.brahmas.com.
