The Bucks need a combination of just four points this week to clinch their fifth straight Southeast Division Championship. If Laredo wins tonight against Odessa, and Corpus Christi loses tonight to Bossier-Shreveport , the Bucks will win the division. However if the Bucks and Corpus both win tonight, Laredo will have to wait until at least Friday to clinch.
Laredo comes into tonight's game with an eight point lead in the Southern Conference standings over Arizona, who lost to at home to New Mexico Wednesday 6-4. Including tonight the Bucks have 13 regular season games left, while the Sundogs have to play 15.
Laredo comes into tonight's game on a three game winning streak, having went 3-0 during last week's road trip to Rio Grande Valley (twice), and Corpus Christi. The Bucks beat the Bees 4-2, and 4-1 last week, while they beat the Rayz 6-3.
Jeff Bes had a stellar week for the Bucks, totaling eight points (six goals, two assists), including scoring his third hat trick of the season in Laredo's 6-3 win in Corpus. Bes now leads the CHL in scoring with 83 points (37-46=83), one point ahead of Arizona's Alex Leavitt (27-55=82).
The Jackalopes enter tonight's game in fourth place in the conference, having lost two straight games. Last Friday and Saturday Odessa was blanked 9-0 by Bossier, before falling 3-2 in Corpus Christi.
The Jackalopes are led in scoring by Sebastien Thinel (26-40=66), and Dominic Leveille (26-37=63), who play on the same line.
This season the two teams have played three times, twice in Odessa, and once in Laredo, with the home team coming out victorious each meeting. The 'Jacks won by scores of 4-3 (SO), and 6-0 at home, while the Bucks won in a 2-1 overtime thriller at the LEC. The 6-0 Odessa win was Laredo's worst loss of the season.
After tonight the Bucks will hit the road for a repeat of last weekend's road trip, Friday in Corpus Christi, and Saturday at Rio Grande Valley, before starting a season-long five game homes stand on February 27th against the Rayz. Group tickets start at $10, with individual tickets starting at $12.75. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to order your tickets today.
