Bridgewater, NJ - The Road Warriors (4-6) shut out the Somerset Patriots (7-3) 3-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.
The Road Warriors took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Edwin Gomez and an RBI single by Jorge Fernandez-Diaz.
Melvin Rodriguez's solo home run (1) in the top of the fifth inning gave the Road Warriors a 3-0 advantage, which would be the final.
Raul Rivera-Alicea (1-1) picked up the win with six scoreless innings pitched, allowing six hits and striking out five. Duane Below (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits in four innings pitched. Luis Cruz earned his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.
"I thought Rivera did a good job of not falling behind all night, really pounding the strike zone, and using both sides of the plate," said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. "He wasn't scared to pitch in and threw some good off-speed pitches to keep us off balance so we really never got anything going. I just thought he was very effective."
The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues at home on Wednesday, May 9th with a day-night double header against the Road Warriors at 11:05 am and 6:35 pm. The 11:05 am game features Career In Sports Day and a Businessperson Special. The 6:35 pm game features Fox Hollow Baseball Bingo. Both games include Senior Wednesday.
