Lexington, KY - It didn't take the Greenville Drive to forget about their disappointing home stand that begin the season, as they pounded out ten hits en route to a 6-3 victory over the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park.
David Marks and Manny Arambarris paced the Drive offense with three hits apiece, as Marks finished a triple shy of the cycle.
The Legends got on the board first with solo home runs off Drive starter Austin Bailey. Steve Brown broke the scoreless tie with a leadoff shot in the second, and Chris DeLome led off the fourth with a roundtripper.
The Drive offense began its rally in the top of the fifth, tying the game with a pair of runs. Josh Reddick tallied an RBI-single, scoring Kristopher Negron. A Lexington error later led to Greenville's second run of the frame.
An inning later, the poor Lexington fielding helped the Drive plate two more runs to take a lead they would not relinquish. Anthony Rizzo led off the inning by reaching due to an error and scored as Ty Weeden followed with an RBI-double off Legends reliever Mike Koons (0-1). Three batters later, Aaron Reza continued his hot hitting with a two-out RBI-double.
Marks put the Drive up for good in the top of the eighth, belting a two-run homer with Negron aboard.
Eammon Portice (1-1) provided solid relief out of the bullpen, surrendering just one run on one hit and a walk while fanning five in 3 1/3 innings. The Legends made a valiant effort in the bottom of the ninth as Felix Ventura issued two walks with one out. With the tying run at the plate, Ventura induced Ronald Ramirez into a game-ending double play for his first save of the season.
The Drive and Legends continue their four-game series tomorrow evening with first pitch set for 7:05 PM at Applebee's Park. Left-hander Jose Alvarez will toe the rubber for the Greenville as Lexington counters with right-hander Leandro Cespedes.
After the series and Lexington and a four-game set in West Virginia with the Power, the Drive return home to Fluor Field at the West End on Tuesday, April 15th.
