
'Jacket's Split Double-Header on Sunday

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets and Greensboro Grasshoppers finished up their four game series with a split of a double-header on Sunday afternoon. The Grasshoppers won the first game 6-4 then Augusta won the second game 4-3 on Andrew Davis' walk-off RBI single.
In the second game, Augusta and Greensboro were tied 3-3 after the seventh inning forcing extra frames. In the eighth inning with runners on first and second and two outs Davis connected for a base hit up the middle scoring Charlie Culberson from second.
Joe Paterson (1-0) picked up the win working one inning allowing one hit and striking out one.
Waldis Joaquin started the game and recorded the no-decision working 3.1 innings allowing one run on three hits.
Augusta took the early 2-0 lead in the second inning. With runners on first and second Matt Klimas hit a ground ball to short. Greensboro second baseman Ryan Curry could not handle the throw from shortstop Emilio Ontiveros allowing Ramon Corona to score from second. Andrew Davis then drove in the second run when he hit into a fielder choice.
Greensboro trimmed the lead in half with an RBI base hit in the fourth inning from Mike Stanton but Augusta made it 3-1 in the fifth inning when James Simmons scored from third when Brock Bond singled then was caught in a run down between first and second.
The Grasshoppers tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning on back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Stanton and Torre Langley.
In the first game the Grasshoppers broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning plating four runs on four hits. Torre Lanley and Adam Howard began the frame with consecutive hits then Thomas Hickman followed with an RBI single for a 2-1 lead. Ben Lasater followed with a two run double and then Osvaldo Martinez capped off the scoring with an RBI sac-fly to right-field for a 5-1 lead.
Augusta starter Madison Bumgarner (0-1) recorded the loss in his first professional start allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
The GreenJackets got a single run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning to pull within two runs but could not get any closer. Angel Villalona had an RBI single in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-2.
In the fifth inning Stanton connected for an RBI single to push the lead to 6-2. Augusta got two more runs in the bottom half on an RBI sac-fly to right from Thomas Neal and an RBI base hit from Nick Noonan.
Greensboro scored the first run of the game in the first inning with an RBI double from Hunter Mense. Augusta tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the first on an RBI base hit from Thomas Neal.
The GreenJackets begin their first road trip of the season on Monday opening an eight game stretch on the road. The GreenJackets will be in West Virginia on Monday taking on the Power with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Augusta will send right-hander T.J. Brewer to the hill to open the road trip. The Power counter with lefty Mike Ramlow.
