Edgar Ramirez to Join Gnats, Frederick Sent Down

SAVANNAH, Ga. - RHP Edgar Ramirez will join the Sand Gnats roster effective immediately, the New York Mets announced today. He will replace fellow reliever Emary Frederick, who will report to Extended Spring Training in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Ramirez will be active for tonight's game in Charleston.

The Miami, Fla. native spent all of 2007 with the Brooklyn Cyclones, going 4-0 with a 3.07 ERA in 19 appearances. He struck out 23 batters in 29.1 innings of work while issuing 18 walks. Ramirez was drafted in the 36th round of the 2006 amateur draft out of Louisiana State University. This is his third season in professional baseball.

Frederick had yet to pitch in a game for the Gnats this season, but was with the Gnats all of last year as a reliever.

Savannah starts a four-game set with the Charleston RiverDogs tonight in Charleston. The Gnats open the home portion of 2008 April 11 at 7 p.m. versus Columbus with a Fireworks Friday contest presented by KIX96.
