
Augusta Opens Road Trip With Loss

Charleston, WV - The GreenJackets (1-4) opened an eight game road trip on Monday night with a 7-1 loss to the West Virginia Power (2-3). T.J. Brewer recorded the loss for Augusta and Thomas Neal provided the only offense with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
The Power broke the game open in the third inning already leading 2-0 by plating five runs highlighted by a three run homer by John Alonso for a 7-0 lead. Scott Houin began the inning reaching on a two base throwing error from shortstop Charlie Culberson. Lee Haydel followed with an RBI base hit for a 3-0 lead. Caleb Gindl connected for a one-out RBI single. Jonathan Lucroy followed with a single then Alonso homered.
Brewer (0-1) allowed seven runs, four earned on five hits. The right-hander did not walk a batter and struck out three.
West Virginia took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out, two-run homer from Zelous Wheeler. With two outs in the frame Steffan Wilson reached on Culberson's first error of the game. Wheeler came up next and connected for a home run over the right-field wall.
Mike Ramlow (1-0) worked five shutout innings for the Power allowing just four hits. The lefty also did not walk a batter and struck out six.
Wes Etheridge recorded the save for West Virginia working four innings. The only run and hit he allowed was the solo homer by Neal.
GreenJackets reliever Craig Clark worked four shutout innings in relief allowing just one hit, two walks and struck out five.
The GreenJackets and Power continue their series on Tuesday night with Augusta sending right-hander Orlando Yntema (0-0, -.--) to the hill for his first start. West Virginia counters with right-hander Rob Bryson (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Augusta stole a base in four straight games before not stealing on Monday night
Thomas Neal has hit safely in the first five games of the season.
Daniel Runzler worked the final inning for Augusta and allowed just one hit.
