San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas---The Colts received the starting pitching they have been looking for from their all-time winner and strikeout king, but errors and even better starting pitching by the Roadrunners, led to 4-2 loss on Memorial Day. The Colts have now dropped the first two games of the series against Edinburg and suffer their third straight loss overall.
San Angelo gave up two runs early, when Edinburg scored a pair in the third. The Roadrunners scored their first run on a double-play, and then a run scored on a throwing error, by Colts catcher Trey Carter that allowed speedy leadoff man Cody McMorris to score all the way from first on a stolen base attempt, making it 2-0 Roadrunners. A throwing error by Colts leftfielder Clay Calfee allowed another run to come home the following inning, to put Edinburg up 3-0 after four.
San Angelo would not go quietly, which is an understatement, as the Colts hit two booming shots when Landon Camp (3) and Jon Edwards (2) lead off the seventh with back-to-back blasts, to cut it to one, at 3-2. Edinburg got an insurance run in the eighth, when Jon Edwards committed the Colts third error of the game in right to make it 4-2, which would be the final.
Lost in all this, was a solid effort by Colts starter Brian Henschel (0-2), who gave San Angelo their best start of the year. Henschel went seven and two-thirds, allowing eight hits, two earned runs, did not walk a batter and struck out five. He was out done by his counter part, veteran right-hander Ryan Harris (1-1), who went six and two-thirds, allowed seven hits, two runs, walking one and striking out eight. Veteran closer Julio Castro finished it off with his second save, in the ninth.
On Tuesday, it will be an early morning affair as the two teams play at 10:30 am. San Angelo sends out southpaw Logan Williamson (0-0, 7.20) in game three, with righty Corey Goudeau (0-1, 1.42) to throw for Edinburg. The game will be broadcasted on the internet only tomorrow; you can follow the action by clicking on the 101.9 "The Fire" logo on the Colts website, at www.sanangelocolts.com.
