Long Island Ducks News Release
(Camden, N.J.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 5-3 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game series at Campbell's Field.
The Ducks put up a two-spot in the first inning off Riversharks starter Mike McGuire. A RBI ground rule by Brandon Sing and a RBI single by Bryant Nelson did the damage. Camden rallied to tie it with single runs in the second and third off Ducks starter John Brownell on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Lloyd Turner and a RBI infield single by Raul Padron.
Two more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth put the Riversharks in front 5-2. Padron's RBI double, Turner's RBI single and a run-scoring double by Reid Gorecki highlighted the scoring. Long Island scored a run on a double play grounder in the seventh but could not get any closer.
McGuire (9-10) got the win, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks. Brownell (2-2) suffered the loss, yielding five runs (four earned) on eight hits while striking out eight in five and one-third innings. Zach Hammes earned his third save with a scoreless ninth.
Sing and Lee Cruz led the Flock with two hits apiece.
